How do you start pussy willows?

Cut 12- to 18-inch long sticks off the end of a young branch (without pussy willows). Make your cut diagonal. You can plant your fresh cuttings directly into wet soil, or put them in a bucket of water to grow roots before planting. Roots will sprout in a few weeks, planted freshly cut, or in the bucket.

How do you look after pussy willows?

Once cut, pussy willow stems will last indefinitely when treated with care. Keep them out of water to preserve the furry catkin. If you want the buds to continue to open, place them into water. Once they reach their desired sized, remove them from water and they stop growing.
