What causes scabs on cucumbers?
The fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum causes scab. The fungus infects cucumbers, melons, summer squash, pumpkins and winter squash. Watermelon is very resistant to the disease and many varieties of cucumber that have resistance to scab are now available.
What does Apple scab look like?
Apple scab can be observed on leaves, blossoms, fruit, and, less frequently, on young succulent shoots. The most obvious symptoms occur on leaves and fruit in the spring and summer, and look like small velvety brown to olive-green spots that enlarge and darken to become more or less circular.
How do you identify a scab?
Scab Identification/Symptoms: Scab symptoms vary depending on the plant and specific fungi involved. In cucumbers and summer squash, infected leaves show pale green-gray, water-soaked spots. Their fruits form small, oozing, sunken spots often mistaken for insect damage.
Why do I keep getting random scabs?
Scabs are a common symptom of skin infections, immune system skin disorders, and injury. Scabs result from the healing process, in which new skin grows over damaged skin. They may occur in conditions affecting one area of skin alone, or along with more generalized conditions, such as shingles, chickenpox, or eczema.

What causes scab in plants?
Scab, also known as gummosis, is caused by the fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum. The disease begins when fungal spores (conidia) are deposited onto aerial plant parts and invade by direct penetration or through natural openings and wounds.
How do I get rid of apple scab?
Planting disease resistant varieties is the best way to manage scab. Fungicides can be used to manage apple scab. Proper timing of sprays is needed for fungicides to control disease.
Will Apple scab kill my tree?
Although unsightly, apple scab rarely kills a tree. However, severe cases can cause complete defoliation by early summer. Infected fruit usually drops prematurely. Repeated severe infections weaken trees, leaving them vulnerable to other disease and insect problems.
Can I eat apples with apple scab?
Apples with scab are perfectly fine on the inside, and still good to eat. The apple interior is not affected, so look for recipes that will use your apples peeled and cooked.
