Mesotrione, the active ingredient in the herbicide Tenacity, is extremely effective and can be used to selectively remove nimblewill from cool season turfgrasses. It is best applied as a spot treatment on residential lawns, and repeat treatments 2-3 weeks apart are necessary (maximum of three treatments).

How do you treat Nimblewill?

One way to control nimblewill infested areas is to completely destroy the nimblewill with an application of glyphosate (Roundup). Another option is to dig up and destroy the nimblewill. Bluegrass or other cool-season grasses have to be reestablished by seeding or sodding after the nimblewill is completely destroyed.

What product kills Nimblewill?

Mesotrione is a systemic, selective herbicide that controls Nimblewill in cool-season lawns of Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, and perennial ryegrass. You can find it at the local garden centers under Tenacity. It is a highly effective product.

When should I kill Nimblewill?

Apply the herbicide when the nimblewill is actively growing during the summer. Applying in late autumn to early spring when it is dormant will not provide control. Glyphosate, being a non-selective herbicide, will kill desirable lawn grasses as well.

How long does it take tenacity to kill Nimblewill?

Use Tenacity when the grass is green and growing. It may take about 10 days to begin to see results, but the nimblewill will soon die after that. Use only in accordance with the label. Do not spray when the target weed is dormant.

Is Nimblewill a perennial?

Nimblewill is a native warm season perennial grass.

Does Roundup kill Nimblewill?

If Nimblewill is too well-established, spot treat it with Roundup® Ready-To-Use Weed & Grass Killer III and that'll be the end of your Nimblewill problem. Remember to protect any desirable plants in the area you're spraying, as our products will kill them if they come in contact.

Is there a pre emergent for Nimblewill?

It's different enough from turfgrass that it's pretty noticeable, but most people really don't like it because it's late to green up in spring and early to brown out in fall. Nimblewill is preventable with pre-emergent herbicides -- the same ones that control crabgrass.

Does tenacity kill onions?

I've played with Tenacity on Wild Onions since the product was released. It "killed" the top growth the first year, but it returned smaller and weaker last year.

How does Nimblewill spread?

Nimblewill spreads by stolons that run along the surface of the soil, whereas many other grasses, like Bermuda, spread via rhizomes. It can also spread by seed if allowed to flower in late summer.

Can you pull Nimblewill?

Nimblewill can easily be pulled out of the ground by hand. However, you must pull up all of the roots so the nimblewill does not grow back.

What weeds does tenacity kill?

Tenacity is a great herbicide option for homeowners looking to treat problem weeds that are difficult to get rid of in their lawns. This highly effective weed control is a popular option for homeowners looking to treat a variety of weeds including chickweed, clover, crabgrass, dandelion, foxtail, henbit and nutsedge.
